Ajinkya Rahane Reaches Out to Gambhir, Gill with Tactical Suggestion Before Crucial 4th Test

With the Indian team trailing 1-2 in the five-match Test series against England, senior batter Ajinkya Rahane has approached head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill with a significant recommendation ahead of the fourth Test in Manchester. Though not a part of the touring squad, Rahane has called for a strategic shift in India’s playing XI.

Rahane Recommends Kuldeep or Extra Bowler for Manchester Test Line-up

Reflecting on India’s performance so far, Rahane believes that the team missed a crucial opportunity to dominate the first innings at Lord’s. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rahane emphasized the need to bolster the bowling attack by bringing in an additional specialist bowler. He underlined that winning a Test match heavily depends on taking 20 wickets.

“As the pitch wears down on Days 4 and 5, batting becomes more challenging. England exploited those conditions well. I felt we couldn’t capitalize on the first innings with a big total. Looking ahead, I strongly believe India should consider playing an extra frontline bowler to increase their chances of taking all 20 wickets,” Rahane commented.

In the third Test, India went with three main pacers — Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep — supported by all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Reddy. Rahane suggests that opting for a fourth specialist bowler could provide better balance.

Kuldeep Yadav Could Replace Nitish Reddy

While Gautam Gambhir is known for favoring all-round options, discussions have reportedly emerged about Nitish Reddy possibly making way for left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the next game.

Rahane Applauds Ben Stokes’ Leadership and Intensity

Rahane also took a moment to appreciate England’s captain Ben Stokes for his commitment and energy on the field, especially in critical moments like the run-out before lunch.

“Just before the lunch break, it’s easy for fielders to lose focus. But Stokes maintained high intensity, which helped shift momentum. His attitude on the field really stood out,” Rahane noted.

Following their loss in Birmingham, England bounced back strongly at Lord’s, showing collective intent and effort. Rahane lauded the home side’s fighting spirit, saying:

“That’s what makes Test cricket special – when all eleven players are in sync and determined to win. England showed that hunger in the third Test.”
