The invitation to the Palace was considered a special moment by both the men’s and women’s teams. A question about Akash Deep’s sister was raised by King Charles. He had so many details. He came across as a very polite person—it didn’t feel like we were talking to the King of England. He was very humble, and the team really enjoyed meeting him.”
Mohammed Siraj was also comforted by King Charles after the thrilling Lord’s Test. Siraj had been in tears after getting out as India’s last batter in the final innings. Siraj’s dismissal was described as unfortunate by the King.
Shukla added:
“He even noticed that. If we had another specialist batter there, we might have won. Our young team has shown it can fight. We came close to winning here, and we did well at Leeds. We’re giving England tough competition and can still win the series with two matches left.”
The Lord’s Test was won by England by a margin of 22 runs. A long break has been scheduled before the fourth Test in Manchester.
Akash Deep’s Sister’s Words
Akhand Jyoti Singh, the sister of Akash Deep, was moved while reflecting on his remarkable display at Edgbaston. Akash dedicated his match-winning effort to her, as she is battling cancer.
In an interview with Aajtak, Jyoti mentioned that she had asked her brother, before he went to England, to focus on his game instead of worrying about her. She said she was overjoyed with his performance, which lifted the whole family’s spirits during a difficult time.
Jyoti revealed that she is battling stage-three cancer and still has six months of treatment remaining.
